Thoughts right now

Journal Entry: Tue Oct 13, 2009, 12:32 AM

Hmmm, life's interesting. First snow came today.

I've always wondered how many people actually listen the music they're "listening", and at the same time don't have a crush on the artist itself. Is it about the music anyway, or the guy that is playing and looking "SOOOOO CUTE :flirty:" there on the stage ? Yeaaaaah, this has always boggled me.

There are so many fangirls (why not fanboys too) out there that are so in love with the band's players that they forget about the original idea (at least in most cases) which is MUSIC. GOD, WTF. Music business itself is full of factors that has nothing to do with music and it seems to go further and further. I think people misunderstands record deals and their "COOLINESS" too. Most of the deals just basically rapes artist's ass and have NO respect for the original idea (i want to REPEAT) that WAS MUSIC and THE GUY'S CREATIVITY. FUCK SHIT UP.
There has also been people who has said to me that "I hope you'll have recognition from record labels and all that stupid shit blaa blaa blaa", and it always confuses me deeply. They've obviously been brainwashed to think that it is every artist's dream to have A RECORD DEAL. Is it ? I mean seriously, would i want to be ass raped and give someone else the permission to decide over my creation ? I mean, do you want to suck my eyeballs ?

People's values are upside down. Everything that IS great is ruined because of some stupid external SHIT and with the word BUSINESS behind it.
Sucks some camel's ass.

It mostly depends on the record deal itself. Because most people have been brainwashed by thinking that only the kind of "artist" contracts you see in the mainstream media is the rule, and that there's nothing else. But it's not the case. 95% of what you hear about on the radio or on tv is based on an "artist" contract that's basically sodomizing the artist and his original vision (vision that ends up completely distorted in the final product anyway). But also, 70% of the contracts that are signed by artists in the world mostly are license or distribution deals, and in this case it's up to the artist to decide what his music is gonna be like.
So i'd say you're conveying wrong but generally accepted ideas when saying most deals rape artists' asses and have no respect for the guy's creativity. It's just basically not true. The artists you talk about should just learn to read their contracts.
And there's nothing "cool" about having a deal, like it used to be in the 80s or the early 90s. Label, indie labels, are just basically people who are working FOR you and your music, and not the other way around like most major companies lead you to believe.

There's a trend these days among bands, saying they don't "need" a label to get their stuff out there. Then just ask them: "why are you looking for one, then?" ;)

Enjoy your day!

I find that pretty much any music band starts off as being relatively promising, creative, and all in all good when they are trying to build a fan base. But like you said somewhat, after the fans start to idolize and business pry's its hands into the band via contracts and promotions, they're pretty much either going to plateau or going to decline in quality a slow and painful death of their band/music.

But yeah, I agree with you for the most part :)

Do you have a record deal ?

I don't think MUSIC itself needs ANY deal. This is just how i see it, personally i don't like combining business and art.

you got a point there, that is actually far wider than music: taking an artwork on its own terms (music on musics terms, live concert on live concerts terms - there are bands who only 'work' when you have the people in front of you and there are bands that work better on cd/lp/mp3/whatever), and separating between artist and artwork. i mean, you can absolutely listen to wagner without sharing his antisemite ideas. you can even appreciate an artwork without having the slightest clue of the artist behind it.

in the music business, i know of early martial/neofolk bands who only appeared masked on stage or played with their back to the audience, to force them not to get hung up on the artists looks, personalities etcetera. of course, cd booklets didnt feature more than pseudonyms, either.

regarding crushes - i can only speak for myself of course, but whatever i liked just because the girl was cute, didnt hold my interest for long.
however, ive always loved kirlian camera - but was blown away when seeing them live. it was a tiny club, maybe 150 people, and elena fossi, the singer, rocked like there was no tomorrow. wowzers... i cant say its completely irrelevant when really cool music is sung by a drop-dead-sexy girl on stage, about 3m away, oblivious to whether its 100 or 1000 people shes singing to. so... hotness in artists is definitely a nice add-on :D

I do, and i'm very happy with it. Took time, and negociations, because it's like everything in Life, if you don't deal with it correctly at the very first step, you're gonna have problems with it for the rest of your life.
It reminds me of those people saying "Money is not important". Usually, when people say that, it's because they have enough money so that they don't have to bother thinking about it, for paying the rent or for anything basic.
You don't like combining business and art, and i understand that. So do i. That's why i'm separating both. Art comes first, and then, when i want to put it out there, I make sure everything is handled properly.

Most of the artists you know, you heard of them because their records are available somewhere and they make what they can to spread the word. Same for the concerts, touring is expensive, and sometimes bands need help to finance it. It doesn't mean they're being screwed, or that their asses are raped.

Anyway cool pics and cool songs, miss.
